After changing my computer from a domain to workgroup and restarted the computer logged on as local administrator and then the Windows 10 icon appeared in lower right hand corner I ran the mediacreationtool and now installing windows 10 thanks for the suggestion very strange that you must do it this way but it is installing now Thanks for the update. There may be some other issue preventing it. I have challenged them on this and I was told they will call me back after more research.

Hope that helps you out. At this stage, there is nothing you can do other than clicking the Close button to exit the installer. So far every domain connected computer that I've tried to use the disc on 3-4 has gotten almost to the last step before actually running the upgrade and then failed with this simple error.

to validate Product on trying to update to FCU

Hello, Just upgraded to the free windows 10 from 8. Does microsoft send you a product key in case you need to reset your computer and it is past the free 1 year upgrade. If so, where do I find it. Thank you You can discover your Wn 10 license key via Belarc Advisor. From a system that was Upgraded, a reinstall, on the same hardware, will not need a license key entry. Your system info motherboard is also part of that license. A reinstall does not need the license to activate it. Your Upgraded system talks to the activation servers, and ends up activated. If you upgraded from a legit windows 8. It should do it automatically during the upgrade process. Check by pressing Windows key + Pause break key and seeing if it says 'windows is activated'. If for some reason it isn't, you should be able to contact microsoft with your legit Win 8. If your computer came stock with windows 8 than the product key is in the bios, you shouldn't have to worry about the product key. Windows will automatically detect it when you reset it or do a clean install or what ever, even after the 1 year upgrade deadline. But if you want to have a copy of the product key, then use this I use this, it's easy, and you don't have to install anything. I put it on a thumb drive and use it on all my computers. Just download the zip file, extract it, then run the app.

It should do it automatically during the upgrade process. It's more than this solution. Sure the watermark and stuff will be there after install but never a hiccup during one. Browse other questions tagged or. Error: The activation server reported that the product key has exceeded its unlock limit. I would prefer not to do a fresh restore - if that's the case I might as well do a clean install because I have a lot of reconfiguration to do if I did restore. I'm getting an error trying out new sccm feature to upgrade operating system.
